2017 Silmarillion Awards Voting

silmarillion awards

Voting for the 2017 Silmarillion Awards is finally here! If you’re new to these awards, they are the online version of the “fantasy oscars”. But instead of honoring authors and books, the characters themselves receive the awards. And, as our way of honoring Tolkien, whom many consider the father of modern fantasy, one of his characters will be presenting each award.

Last week we tallied up the nominations for each of the ten awards and now it’s time to vote!

I’m hosting the Most Magnificent Dragon award so let’s take a look at the 2017 finalists!

This year’s nominees

The 2017 nominees for the Most Magnificent Dragon are:

most magnificent dragonDeath-in-Life from Tales of Goldstone Wood. Also known as The Dragon, The Greater Dark, and the Dark Father. In many worlds he is known, sometimes hated, sometimes worshiped, and always feared.

Kazul from Dealing with Dragons. Kazul takes in princess Cimorene when she decides she’s just not cut out for the princess life. They end up becoming fast friends and Kazul eventually becomes the ruler of all the dragons.

Makaidos from Dragons in Our Midst. This is one of the few dragons to have come back from the dead.

Saphira from Eragon. A female dragon bonded to Eragon Shadeslayer as her Dragon Rider.

Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon. Not to be confused with the one from the movies. He is what’s known as a hunting dragon and he is quite small, highly intelligent, and rather adorable.

Can you pick only one? Do you dare? And more importantly, what will the losers do to your village if they don’t win???

Silmarillion scavenger hunt

silmarillion grand prizeAs part of this year’s awards, we’re also holding a scavenger hunt! And in honor of the occasion, Jenelle Schmidt, one of the co-founders of these awards has written a lovely poem. If you collect all ten lines and enter it into the voting form you could win one of our lovely prizes, We’re giving away a replica of the One Ring, a Tolkien trivia book by Benita J Prins, and for the grand prize, a beautiful map of Middle-Earth!

This is stop 8 of 10 in the scavenger hunt. The voting form can also be found at all the other stops. Below, you’ll find the phrase for this stop. You can click on the phrase and it will take you to the next part of the scavenger hunt where you can get another phrase.

Made from the Trees of Valinor’s blended light.

Or, if you’d like to start the scavenger hunt from the first stop, you can go to the Adventure Awaits site. One final little note, that these prizes are only available inside the United States. Sorry Rest of the World, but we can’t afford to ship it to distant shores.

Okay, time to get voting. Results will be announced July 16th-28th!

  1. *psst* DJ, the link in your phrase is going back to Kyle’s blog instead of Zachary’s.

*proceeds to struggle with which dragon to vote for*

    1. Aaaand, once I got to Jenelle’s post, I saw that y’all already know about the glitch. Sorry, just ignore me. 🙂

  2. Rebekah / Stargazer

Wow, I like know all of these pretty much. o.o From completely evil to completely cute. Dragons can be very different apparently!!

I HAD SO MUCH FUNNNNNNNN. THANKS FOR DOING THIS AGAIN DJ AND JENELLE. It’s seriously been one of my two most anticipated blog events of the year and I’d been looking forward to it for months. 🙂
THANKS SO MUCH. <3 All the epic fantasy fun! 😀

    Blessings,
    Rebekah

    P.S. SO MUCH FUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN. 😀 😀 😀 THANKS AGAIN.

    1. Your comment made my day, Rebekah. So glad you’re enjoying the awards as much as the rest of us. It’s so great to just take a few days to bask in all the epic characters fantasy has to offer, isn’t it? Can’t wait to see who comes away with this year’s awards!

  3. Oh my, oh my. ALL these dragons are spectacular in their own way. (And like Rebekah said, some evil, some cute. I love the mix here. XD) Hoooow am I going to choose???? I want ALL the dragons to win because…DRAGONS!!! Just being a dragon alone deserves an award. ;D

    1. Yes, indeed, quite the motley crew we have here. Just goes to show how much variety there is in fantasy fiction. I knew this award would be a popular one because dragons are pretty much the mascots for fantasy and one of the first things you think of when you think about these sorts of books. I’m sorry all of them can’t win, but I’m sure the one that does will make for an epic award presentation!

  4. Aaaaauuuuugggghhhh such a hard choice! I mean when I saw Death-in-Life on there, I thought “Oh, duh,” but then again we’ve got Kazul and Saphira and Toothless and this is so haaaaard.

  5. Ack! I love Death-in-Life AND Makaidos! Though Death-in-Life would be the scariest of the two to come burn down my house if he lost…

      1. Sounds smart. Where can I purchase such insurance? Maybe the Wisest Counselors would know… 😉

  6. I’m a little scared of voting for a dragon lest the others really do come and burn down my village! Maybe I’ll just go into hiding for twelve years after I vote. Do you think the dragons will have forgotten by then? Or maybe I can bribe them with jewels.
