The Road Ahead
February proved to be an eventful month. The Valentine’s Day promo went far better than I could have ever expected with the book hitting #1 in Teen Science Fiction and High Tech Science Fiction and #3 in all of Science Fiction on Amazon for the days it was free.
Whatever happens going forward, what I actually took away from that experience was that, as great as it was to give away so many copies, the most important thing is writing stories that are worth reading. Ultimately, my focus really needs to be on the writing first and foremost. A lot of effort went into the promotion, but at the end of the day, it is always about the stories themselves.
So for the next few months I’m going to focus back in on just writing. I’ve been hard at work on the sequel to Into the Vast for a while now, but that will occupy more and more of my time between now and its release. However, between now and then there will still be other fires burning along the way and so I thought I’d touch on a few of them before I double down back into the writing.
While Into the Vast will remain an Amazon exclusive for the time being, The Artificer’s Apprentice and The Spirit of Caledonia, two short stories, will be making the rounds to more and more online ebook stores in the weeks ahead. My hope is to one day offer both of them for free on Amazon (as in the other stores), but as of yet, they have not been willing to lower the price. Hopefully that will happen soon.
I also have the first draft written of the first book in a fantasy series that I’ve been holding back on while I launched the Chronotrace series. But the nature of this fantasy series is that each book sort of stands on its own and a common thread ties them all together. So I may go ahead and release it early next year even before the Chronotrace books have all been finished. I’m still undecided on that, but it is a great story that I’m really anxious to share so we’ll see if I can somehow fit it in.
So those are some of the directions I’m heading in for now. I am hoping for a fall release for the second volume in the Chronotrace Sequence, but that is just an estimate at this point. There is still so much ink to be spilled between now and then that’s hard to say if I’ll hit that deadline, but it’s something I am certainly shooting for. Because, as that accidental poet, Yogi Berra, once said,
If you don’t know where you are going,
you’ll end up someplace else.
