It’s been a little more than a year since I published Into the Vast and I thought I’d take a moment to look back at my first year in publishing as well as take a look ahead to what’s in store for 2014.
Into the Vast was released in September of 2012 with a trailer and then got a shiny new cover and has been my best-selling book by far. Certainly the sales have fallen short of what I’d hoped, but I did run a couple of free promotions and gave away nearly 10,000 Kindle copies all told and the book spent a little time in the top 100 on a few of the Science Fiction sales charts on Amazon.
I also released two short stories in 2013, The Spirit of Caledonia, and The Artificer’s Apprentice. Both stories were soon made available for free and I’ve had several hundred downloads of each of them and some nice reviews as well.
I spent the second half of the year writing book 2 of the Chronotrace Sequence as well as The Jammer and the Blade. As for those two works, the Jammer was released in the fall of 2013, but hasn’t gotten a lot of attention. To that end, I decided to release a new cover for it and I hope to reveal that within the next few days.
Speaking of covers, I have the cover done for book 2 of the Chronotrace Sequence and I’m going to do a partial reveal of that right after the new year as well as reveal the title of the book. It’s all very hush hush, cloaks and daggers and that sort of thing. So be on the lookout for it.
The book itself is with my editor right now who has had lots of other things on her plate and has not been able to finish it as of yet. Hopefully, however, by January or February the book will be ready for release.
The coming year my goal is to release the third and final book in the Chronotorace series. I don’t want to over commit so that may actually be all I publish this year, but I do have a couple of other projects beyond that which I’ll turn to once its finished. First among these is the fantasy novel I wrote just before publishing Into the Vast. It’s only a first draft so it’s not ready for release, but that may be the next book out after the Chronotrace series. I also have an idea for another science fiction novel that I’m dying to write that would be released in three installments, but as the fantasy novel is also part of a series, I’m not sure if I’ll push it back or not. I like to stay on a series until it’s completed before turning myself to brand new projects.
I’m really excited about what’s coming up in the new year and I am very thankful for every one of my readers and those who have given me encouragement and feedback on this journey.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
