Ascent’s Second Wind

something in the genre of imagination

Ever feel like you are running in place? Like the calendar has been hooked up to some sort of tread mill and each day is the same as the last? Like you’re living in the movie “Groundhog Day”? It’s not exactly the best feeling in the world. Writing a novel, especially editing one can sometimes feel like that. It takes so long just to get a chapter done and then you have forty more after that and you start to wonder, “why did I make this book so long?” It’s enough to drive a man to take up poetry.

I’m currently editing Ascent of the Nebula, book 3 of the Chronotrace Sequence. I have been working on this book for almost a year, far longer than any other project I’ve undertaken. Given that it’s the third book of my first trilogy, working on it has a bit of the feel or working on a senior thesis or some other sort of similar project and when I finish it I’ll get my diploma and be a real writer.

The good news is that after all my editor troubles, I’m finally getting something of a second wind. I finally have the manuscript again and I’m over half way through the edits and gaining steam. If I keep up my current pace, the book should be on target for a November/December release. Another positive thing is that, while this book has been delayed I’ve had a significant time away from it and I’m seeing the story again with fresh eyes. Sometimes I like what I see, other times, I don’t, but that’s what editing is for? Overall, though, the story is growing on me the more I read it.

Picking up the threads of an old life

It has been a challenge to resolve all of the major story lines in this book. I don’t think I’ll really know how successful I was until I hear back from readers, but hopefully it will be just as satisfying to finally get to the bottom of all these secrets as it has been for me to finally get them off my chest. It’s hard to keep a secret for three years!

As I said, the book will be available within a few weeks of writing this. The plan is to do a “soft” release without a lot of fanfare or advertising. I will be doing a cover reveal on November 4th, though, so stay tuned for that!

More on that in the coming newsletters, as well as some info on my upcoming Fantasy novel, The Last Motley. That project has hit a few snags as well (more editor woes), but hopefully by the time the next newsletter rolls around I’ll have some better news to report.

Haha, yes. I’ve been feeling quite a lot like the movie Groundhog Day lately.
Anyway, I’m glad your edits are going well and I’m sorry that you’re having editor woes.
